You can send worn Alden shoes or boots back to Alden for a factory rebuild, or to an independent cobbler. This page puts Alden's own Restoration Service next to independent shops that publish Alden prices, so you can compare price, materials and wait time. Alden calls its factory recraft the Restoration Service. Shoes are rebuilt at the Alden Shoe factory in Middleborough, Massachusetts (1 Taunton Street, Middleborough, MA 02346).
What it includes, per Alden: an expert rebuild with all necessary repairs, using original materials handworked on the original lasts. Shoes are refinished by hand and come back with Alden cedar shoe trees and cloth bags.
Price: $219 for US customers, listed by The Alden Shop of San Francisco (which calls itself the official company retailer for the Alden Shoe Company) and by Alden of Washington DC. The manufacturer page itself does not show a price.
How to send: request a Restoration Service Kit. The San Francisco shop asks for your name, email, phone and street address and says it will provide a prepaid mailer. The manufacturer page tells US customers to email online@aldenshoe.com; international customers use international@aldenshoe.com.
Turnaround, when you pay, and which soles you can choose: not published on any of these pages (not confirmed). Forum posts describe waits of several months, but we could not load them to check, so we do not list a number.

Alden work: Its price list has a dedicated Alden section, marked "For Alden shoes only" on some items: Alden flex welt full soles and heels, lightweight rubber outsoles, red or black dress rubber outsoles, casual lug, Goodyear wedge, Neo-Cork work boot outsoles, Cape Cod repair and G.M. oak bark leather soles with Alden heels are $230 each. Alden Commando full replacement or conversion is $295. Alden All Weather Walkers are $270. Alden heels only are $75 (combination, starburst, Commando, foot balance, casual lug or All Weather Walker). All Weather Walker leather tips only $70; shank removal $45.

Note: Mail only: its FAQ answers "Can I bring my shoes in person?" with "No, Shipping Only". Round-trip UPS shipping is $32 on orders over $100 ($60 below), insured to $500; the label is emailed within 12 hours of checkout, not on weekends. Turnaround conflict on its own site: the homepage says no less than six weeks with no expediting, while the FAQ says 4 to 5 weeks for regular repair and 4 to 6 weeks for sole conversion and closed channel hand stitched soles.

Its high-grade shoe page lists a standard resole at $135 and a complete resole and accessory package at $165 (Super Prime leather soles and heels, fitted on the correct size last, cork stripped and reapplied, cedar trees and flannel bags), both including shipping. Vibram dress sole package $130 and heavy lug $140, both including shipping. It sends a free postage-paid shipping package on request and says it will contact you if your repair will take more than 2 weeks to return. Its own pages do not mention Alden; Alden work is mentioned only on Styleforum (not confirmed). Its site says it moved to 668 Lexington Ave, but the order form PDF still shows 140 East 55th St, and the form adds a 3.95% credit card surcharge.

Only Alden says it uses original materials on the original lasts. Independent shops use their own lasts and soles; whether they match Alden's lasts is not confirmed.
Alden's $219 includes the mailer. At Aram, a $230 Alden outsole plus $32 round-trip shipping comes to $262. Wyatt & Dad's price does not include shipping (not confirmed).
Independents publish more sole choices (Commando, Neo-Cork, crepe-style, Dainite). Alden does not publish which soles its Restoration Service offers.
